Spend the Afternoon in the Park of Stones

Among lifes' greatest pleasures is the simple act of walking. Taking steps that are leading onto little paths in between trees, opening the sights of landscape to be discovered and enjoyed, provides an excellent method of relaxation and therapeutical activity. Once the sight a bigger town like Klaipėda becomes all too familiar, why not stirr up your visit to Lithuania with a getaway to a small village where you can find yourself at peace by yourself or with some friends.

Lithuanian province has been noted for its natural beauty and a rather successful preservation of history despite the challenges faced in the past.

Mosėdis, a town of 1,500 people, celebrated the 760th birthday on the 2nd of August in 2013 and is an example of a location with some great lines on its' CV - first mentioned in 1253 it survived takeovers and several fires, built a church in 1783 and now hosts a unique Park of Stones.

While Kuršių Nerija may remain your top choice for a few days off in Lithuania, there is also something very calming only 65km away on a rented (or borrowed) car or with the help of buses in Klaipėda. The place is excellent for a warm summer day when you can enjoy the tranquillising surroundings, find plenty of benches to rest, excellent lawns for picnics and some interesting sculptures.

Park of Stones began being formed around 1957, the time when a young doctor, Vaclovas Intas was assigned to begin working in the municipality. His fascination with nature and love for the place soon started blooming with rocks of all sizes being brought to the hospital area, from where it soon expanded.

These days, the museums are free of charge, and you can roam around enjoying the unusual shades to keep you cool.

The small town only 11 kilomemeters away from Skuodas is ideal for 5-6 hours on a sunny day - grab a noticeably cheaper and delicious meal at a local restaurant located in an old watermill on your way out and plan to visit again soon.
