Walking along the Danė river in Klaipėda
The center of Klaipėda, along both sides of the Danė river offers a relaxing workout that can be completed during a lunch-break, in the afterwork hours or on a weekend day with your headphones on.
You should start at the heart of Klaipėda, the Biržos Bridge,
the major connection of the central street to which any buses or taxi can take
you – it‘s right next to the Musical Theater of Klaipėda and the symbol of this
town, the beautiful barquentine „Meridianas“.
Choose either direction while facing the ship - moving straight will take you through the park towards a
fountain and in about 5
minutes further you can find a nice sushi bar, a DHL office and the seriously awesome live music bar in Klaipėda Kaštonas („Chestnut“) – well worthy
of taking a few steps away from the main city‘s attraction.
As you return, do not forget to notice for a few great photo
opportunities – „Meridianas“ looks equally appealing at any point of the day.
Continuing back onto the bridge, over the street, you might also get lucky to
face a beautiful sunset and there is really only one direction on that
crosswalk – onwards.
Passing by along the river you can spot the Municipality of
Klaipėda next to another feature of this town – the Fisherman sculpture.
A series of local venues with terraces offer drinks and
dining across the river while you can spot the rowers training just beneath the
temptations.
You can walk over as soon as you reach the second bridge you will
encounter within few minutes away from Biržos bridge as you continue towards
the ferry stop.
The city‘s central artery, the Danė, meets the the Coronian
peninsula exiting into the Baltic Sea at the end of the both the biking and the
walking roads. Here you can add a pinch of amazingness to your experience by taking a ferry over to
the Coronian spit and continue your trail along the coastline on either end of
the unique feature of Lithuania.
